Team Tres amigas salvages is just as sad as this puppy to be done with their two week small animal placement at Hopkins Belize Humane Society.
Throughout our time here, we have gained insight into just how rampant parasites are in Belize, as shown in photo 2/video. Photo 2 shows Petri dishes full of ticks removed from one side of a dog, highlighting the importance of tick and flea preventative medication - something that is hard to come by in Belize. The video shows extraction of “Beef worms” (Botfly larvae) which are common amongst pets that roam the streets here.
We have also been fortunate enough to have been involved in the vital population control program headed by the humane society, as shown in photos 4, 5 & 6.
Photo 7 shows the generous donations made by those from 1st world countries - an important part of the ability of the humane society to accomplish it’s amazing work.
