2017 SEA 2

Team South East Asia 2
Catherine Belanger and Jane Newman

Our team is travelling to Thailand to learn from and assist veterinarians and animal care workers dealing with issues that affect animal and human welfare. One of such issues that we felt particularly important was overpopulation. Overpopulation is a major concern in Thailand and spay/neuter program play an important role in controlling population numbers and limiting the spread of disease. Our group is interested in examining the public health issues that arise from these overpopulation scenarios such as zoonotic diseases and their transmission. Some of the reserves we are visiting also promote conservation of their rainforests and emphasize public education. We hope to collaborate with veterinarians and community members to provide support, enhance our veterinary training, and learn about issues that we don’t necessarily experience in Canada. Your donations are greatly appreciated and will be used to promote the health of both animals and humans.
